Who Is God, Anyway?
Who is God, anyway?
Imagine the very best father possible.
That human father would be just a glimpse of the kind of Father God is to us. God made the entire universe with just a word. But He is also a personal, relational and loving Being. He is all-powerful, and He cares about you! The prophet Jeremiah said to God, “Oh, Lord God, you did indeed make heaven and earth by your mighty power and great strength. Nothing is too hard for you!” (32:17) God desires to work powerfully in our lives.
God’s handiwork is evident as we look at the world around us.
The Tanakh says, “Fools say to themselves, ‘There is no God'” (Psalm 14:1). It’s interesting that the Bible doesn’t attempt to prove God exists. It simply assumes He exists, even from the very beginning (Genesis 1:1). The author of the New Testament book of Hebrews in chapter 11, verse 3 explains it this way, “By faith we understand that the worlds were set in order at God’s command, so that the visible has its origin in the invisible.”
God is completely holy.
He is 100% morally pure and separated from any hint of sin. He judges sin (Psalm 5:5), but thankfully He also offers forgiveness (Psalm 130:4).
God is also just (Acts 17:31), truthful (John 14:6), compassionate (2 Corinthians 1:3), graceful (Romans 5:17), and merciful (Romans 9:15).
Any definition of God falls short by human comprehension, but here’s a possible definition: “The Supreme Being; the Creator and Ruler of all that is; the Self-Existent One who is perfect in power, goodness, and wisdom.”

God is always present to help us whether we feel He is present or not. “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, being convinced of what we do not see (Hebrews 11:1). What we know about God is based on faith.
